Not drinking enough water, going out in the sun without sunscreen, and using harsh chemical products adds to the damage. Everyone loves a youthful glow and baby soft skin. There are hundreds of products available to help you keep your skin healthy, vibrant, and wrinkle free. You can either buy scrubs at your local drug store or prepare a batch in the comforts of your home using simple inexpensive ingredients.
I really enjoy making yummy scrubs, which prompted me to look for unique recipes to give to friends and family. It saves me time and money when I'm unable to splurge on my favorite products. With that being said I thought it would be pretty cool to share with my readers. We deserve to look and feel fabulous!
1. Brown Sugar & Olive oil scrub- equal parts brown sugar and olive oil about 2 tablespoons, mix well and spread on face and body to exfoliate dead cells. The olive oil hydrates and leaves the skin feeling smooth.
2. Honey Almond scrub- 8 whole almonds, 2 tablespoons of uncooked oats, 1 tablespoon of honey,
2 teaspoons of sour cream, yogurt and 1 slightly beaten egg white
Finely ground almonds and oats in a blender, fold in remaining ingredients. Gently massage on face and neck, let set for up to 10 minutes. Rinse with warm water and pat dry.
3. Lemon Sugar scrub- 1/4 brown sugar, 1 cup of grapeseed oil (or olive oil), 1/4 grated lemon peel
Zest the lemon. Mix lemon zest and sugar in a bowl, evenly distribute mixture. Once thoroughly combined, add oil. Mix until saturated. Set aside. Allow the mixture to stand for 30 minutes. By now there should be a thin layer atop the sugar (1/2 inch), if not add more oil & mix again. Apply scrub to damp skin in a circular motion, rinse with warm water and pat dry.
4. Peppermint-Lemon Slice Body scrub- 1 large lemon, 1 cup jojoba oil, 1 cup raw brown sugar, 3 drops peppermint essential oil, 2 drops lemon essential oil, 1 capsule vitamin e 400 IU oil and 1 glass jar with tight lid. Wash lemon with luke warm water and evenly cut into slices (extract the seeds). Pour jojoba oil and sugar in jar over lemon slices. Next add drops of peppermint and lemon oils along with 1 capsule of vitamin E. Seal contents and shake gently. Store in fridge and when your ready to pamper yourself, remove a slice and massage gently on skin. The recipe yields one jar and can last up to 3 weeks.
5. Lemon-Apple Icy scrub- 2 apples, 2 lemons, 1 cup of water, ice trays and freezer bags. Wash lemons and apples in lukewarm water, cut both in quarters (extract the seeds). Place fruit in a blender along with 1 cup of water and blend to a paste. For a smoother texture, puree for about 10 extra seconds. Pour the paste in ice trays and place in freezer until cubes are set. Remove and transfer to freezer bags (keep frozen). Use daily to rub on your face and neck in a upward motion.
