Water running hot, steamed filled bathroom and fogged mirrors. Step out the shower feeling fresh, invigorated and clean. But swipe the mirror and behold facial stubble!. Those prickly hairs sticking out from your face, neck and upper lip. Most us (embarrassingly) are still lathering up to remove unwanted facial hair. With so many methods to rid away stubs; waxing, laser, tweezing and creams. But whatever the method, we try to do it painlessly as possible. Here are a few do's and don'ts to prevent razor burns and bumps. (eeewww!!)
1. Exfoliate and sooth- start with a clean slate. If you prefer to shave, use a very warm wash cloth and let it set on area for a few minutes. I also recommend a good facial brush to stimulate your face the night before. This can prevent ingrown hairs and bumps. Nothing beats a good gentle scrubbing.
2.Wax on wax off- be careful not to over do it! Again, this can cause ingrown hairs if you continuously was the same area more than 3 times, leading to irritated skin and redness. If there are any stubborn survivors, try plucking the remaining with a tweezer for a more clean finish.
3. Epilators are not haters- they do however work better on shorter hair. Using this instrument on longer hairs can be painful. Be kind your skin, shave the area first, then later go over the area with an epilator.
4.Use as directed- make sure to follow directions if your plan on using creams. Make sure to choose the correct cream for the job; bikini, leg, and underarm depilatories are not recommended for the face,so read carefully. Although creams are less painful, if left on too long they can cause serious irritation or scarring.
5. Don't have a "pluck it" attitude. Oh my gosh!! This has to be the most painful solution to hair removal. I absolutely hate it. If you must pluck, use the soothing method with a warm cloth or a bath. Brace yourself. I tried to accomplish this and cried through the entire evil process. And I was just removing hairs to shape my eyebrows.
6. Soak up the goodness- whether you pluck, wax, shave or dissolve, be sure to moisturize your skin afterwards to maintain a healthy glow. Aloe vera infused lotions work best due to cooling and healing properties.
