DIY: Pimp Your Pout

After buying a tube of Smashbox O-Gloss for $19.80, I figured there has to be an affordable way to score a luscious lip gloss. Make no mistake, O-gloss is wonderful and creates the perfect shade of pink for my complexion. But unfortunately, paying nearly $20 bucks a pop can get quite expensive. So that sparked the idea to find diy glosses. I found some recipes that are pretty easy to make and with a little creativity, you might stumble upon on a gloss you'll really enjoy while saving a bundle.

KOOL-AID GLOSS (very easy)
What you'll need:
petroleum jelly
your favorite kool-aid
clear cosmetic container
*I made this myself, but found if you add a vitamin E capsule and pinch of sugar to kool-aid first, it cuts on the grit and dissolves much easier. Then add to petroleum jelly.*

CHOCOLATE KISSES LIP BALM
What you'll need:
3 tbsp. Cocoa butter
4-5 chocolate chips
I capsule of vitamin E
clear cosmetic container
Melt Ingredients in microwave safe container and refrigerate

HONEY LIP BALM
What you'll need:
3 teaspoons grated unbleached beeswax
5 teaspoons carrier oil (sunflower, castor, or jojoba or coconut oil)
6 or 7 drops essential oil peppermint or 1 teaspoon honey
clear cosmetic container
Melt the beeswax and carrier oil together in the top of a double boiler or microwave stirring to combine. Remove from heat, add honey and essential oil. Mix thoroughly so the honey does not clump.
To add a little color, stir in a tiny dab of lipstick with a coffee stirrer. Pour the mixture into containers; let sit 20 minutes before covering or moving. For glossier lip balm, use 2 teaspoons wax and 8 teaspoons carrier oil.

LIP GLOSS
What you'll need:
1/2 oz of light to color free oil
1 pinch of beeswax
Bella terra or any cosmetic pigment powder
Heat beeswax and oil for one minute in microwave in safe container or until beeswax is melted. Cool for 5 minutes before adding pigment powders. Stir gently until color is mixed throughout. Transfer to suitable lip gloss container. New glass roll on fragrance bottles can be used, only if it has never been used for fragrance oil. Make it a duo, and split the batch in to two shades in a cylinder container.

CRANBERRY KISS
What You'll Need:
  • 12 Fresh Cranberries
  • 1 Tablespoon Avocado Oil (any Vegetable Oil will work)
  • 1 Teaspoon Honey
  • 2 Drops Vitamin E (or one capsule)
  • 1 Cheese Cloth
  • cosmetic container
  1. Heat up the Cranberries, Oil, Honey and Vitamin E on the stove top, bringing it to a boil
  2. Crush up the Cranberries with a wooden spoon until the color has turned to your lip-stain liking
  3. Let it cool for ten minutes and then strain through Cheese Cloth to get out the Cranberry bits
  4. Let it cool again - but not too long - and then spoon it into your Tin

*Don't be afraid to experiment with different seasonal fruits, hues and natural ingredients. Stick the basic and K.I.S.S. (keep it simple and sweet)
